Guidelines for Abstract Submission

1. Abstracts of accepted presentations will be printed as submitted unless the Scientific Program Committee edits for clarity and space.
  • Full Title (Max. 25 words) – The full title of your presentation. Successful titles convey the subject matter, pique the interest of the reader and identify potential audiences.
  • Presenter Information – Including name(s) of all presenters, contact information for primary presenter, brief biography of all participants (100 words each).
  • Abstract (Max. 300 words) – A summary of your presentation.  The Scientific Program Committee will base its acceptance decisions on this information.  An effective submission will include:
  a) Introduction/Background Information
  b) Methods used in conducting the study, project or activity
  c) Results of the study, project or activity
  d) Conclusion(s)/Evaluation of the study, project or activity.

2. Abstracts must be submitted online, as follows:

An acknowledgment of receipt of the abstract will be sent automatically to the submitting author by email upon completion of the online submission. Prior to adjudication, abstracts that are submitted online allow the presenter to modify the submission until the closing date of September 30, 2009. Those abstracts that are selected for either platform presentations or poster sessions will be reproduced exactly as submitted and substitutions will not be permitted. As such, please be sure to proofread your abstract very carefully before submitting. Prepare your abstract in word-processing software such as MS Word. Do not use presentation software such as PowerPoint. Please do not include photographs in your abstract.

Please limit your abstract to no more than 300 words. Each abstract should have four paragraphs:

a) Introduction/Background Information
b) Methods used in conducting the study, project or activity
c) Results of the study, project or activity
d) Conclusion(s)/Evaluation of the study, project or activity.

3. The Scientific Program Committee reserves the right to allocate a submission to be a platform presentation or poster session and to combine more than one submission into a single session. Presenters will be notified in advance and agreement will be requested.

4. Note: please do not send “packaged presentations,” brochures or portfolios. They will not be reviewed or returned.

5. Authors wishing to submit a proposal for a ninety-minute symposium should submit one abstract (Chair’s Abstract) which clearly outlines the content, scope and objective of the proposed symposium. It should list the individual presentations which comprise the symposium, and identify the discussant. The Authors should also submit an abstract for each of the five individual presentations in the proposed symposium (Presenter’s Abstracts). These abstracts should conform to the guidelines outlined in points 1 and 2 above. The Symposium Chair Abstract should be submitted by the chairperson of the proposal. The Symposium Presenter Abstracts may be submitted by the chairperson, or individually by the presenters, providing they identify which symposium proposal the abstract pertains to. Please see the detailed instructions for further information.
